The peacock is a medium-sized, colorful bird belonging to the pheasant family. The bird is native to Asia. The peacock is the national bird of India.

            Amazing  Facts about peacock:-

  • Peacock is a male bird. The female is termed as ‘peahen’, and babies ‘pea chicks’. Males are usually larger than the females and have longer tails.
  • A group of female peafowls is called a ‘Bevy’.
  • The male birds are very simple when they hatch. This mean, Peacocks are not born with a fancy tail.
  • Male offspring look like their mothers at a young age. After 6 months, the males begin to look different from female.
  • The peacocks take on a fresh feather set each year after the old set is discarded. 
  • A male peacock can live for 20 years.
  • Peacocks are flying birds. but they cannot fly long distances due to the heavy tails.
  • The white peafowl is not vivid. A gene mutation causes peacocks to lose their pigmentation that turns them into while "peafowls".
  • Peacock can send out fake mating calls. When they want to draw the female attention than they actually send out fake copulative mating calls.
  • Peacock feathers are covered with small crystals that glow and attractive. These crystal-like structures reflect light which gives the fluorescent look to the feathers.
  • Mongoose, tigers, cats, and wolves in the wild are the main predictor.
  • Peacocks stay on the trees, sometimes for whole days, to save themselves from predators,  
  • Peacocks are omnivores. They eat insects, seeds and lizards.
  • The male is the prettier one, but when it comes to choosing a mate, the female reserves the right to reject. Color and tail feathers are considered when accepting a mating call.  
  • Peacocks are sacred birds for Hindus in India. 
  • Peacocks are not solitary birds. They feel very lonely and unhappy when kept alone. Even they let out unpleasant voice to express their grief.
  • Tigers and lions hate this bird because Their call is also one of the loudest and it warns the wild animals about the upcoming dangers.
