The Yorkshire terrier is energetic, domineering, and also affectionate. It is thought a good apartment dog, but it may be stubborn with house training.


     Some facts about Yorkshire terrier:-

  • The Yorkie was originally bred in the mid-1800s. 
  • Yorkshire terrier was used to hunt rats in mines and mills and also for hunting fox underground.
  • The Yorkshire terrier was one of the AKC'S original breeds. Yorkshire terriers became registered in 1885 along with classics like the beagle, basset hound, and bull terrier.
  • Newborn Yorkie's weigh about 2.5 ounces (0.7 kilograms) and have very short, soft hair which is usually a mix of black and tan colors. Yorkie's can live from 13 to 16 years-of-age.
  • The AKC (American kennel club) standards of a Yorkie are a weight between 4 to 7 pounds (1.81 to 3.17 kilograms) and a height of 6 to 9 inches at the shoulder (15.24 to 22.86 centimeters).
  • The tail of the Yorkie is usually trimmed to be smaller at birth. Tails are docked to about half their original length.
  • The Yorkie’s eyes are dark and with dark rims around them. So, they have been described as being “bright”.
  • Loyal and loving, this dog does not want to be left alone and in fact is known as a “purse dog,” they love to go everywhere with its owner.
  • Yorkie's have a confident walk and are very curious about their surroundings and those it comes in contact with outdoors.
  • This breed like to curl up in a little ball when sleeping or simply taking a quick nap.
  • The Yorkshire terrier is the 6th most popular dog in all of the US.
  • Because of their size, Yorkie's are a part of the “Toy” dog group.
  • The smallest dog in the record is a Yorkie whose named is Sylvia. She was only 2.5 inches tall, 3.5 inches long and weighed in only 4 ounces.
